From the ground up, just like them

Before my sweet Papa passed away this last February he and my grammy celebrated 63 years of marriage together. While Zach, the kids, and I were on vacation in CA I got to see my Grammy for the first time since Papa's been gone. Being with my awesome husband, grateful for our marriage and then seeing my grammy + missing papa made the song below hit home in my heart. It says it all perfectly.

"From the Ground Up" by Dan + Shay
Grandma and grandpa painted a picture of sixty-five years

And one little house

More than a memory

More than saying I do
Kiss you goodnight's and I love you's

Me and you baby, walk in the footsteps

Build our own family

One day at a time

Ten little toes, a painted pink room
Our beautiful baby looks just like you

And we'll build this love from the ground up

Now 'til forever it's all of me, all of you

Just take my hand

And I'll be the man your dad hoped that I'd be
And we'll build this love from the ground up

For worse or for better

And I will be all you need

Beside you I'll stand through the good and the bad
We'll give all that we have
And we'll build this love from the ground up

This life will go by

In the blink of an eye

But I wouldn't wanna spend it without you by my side

The cloud are gonna roll
The earth's gonna shake
But I'll be your shelter through the wind and the rain

And we'll build this love from the ground up

Now 'til forever it's all of me, all of you

Just take my hand

And I'll be the man your dad hoped that I'd be
And we'll build this love from the ground up

For worse or for better

And I will be all you need

Beside you I'll stand through the good and the bad
We'll give all that we have
And we'll build this love from the ground up

Someday we'll wake up

With thousands of pictures

Sixty-five years in this little house

I won't trade for nothing, the life that we built
I'll kiss you goodnight and say I love you still

And we'll build this love from the ground up

For worse or for better

And I will be all you need

Beside you I'll stand through the good and the bad
We'll give all that we have
And we'll build this love from the ground up
From the ground up

I am so grateful for my grammy and papa's legacy. 63 years of commitment. 63 years of sticking it out. Staying in it. Through thick and thin. A lot can come to pass in 63 years, good and hard, but they never quit. We are so blessed to walk in those footsteps. Thanks for paving the way, Grammy and Papa. We will celebrate 6 years in a couple weeks. I can only hope we'll get to see 63+ years together, too.

Beautiful! Marriage isn't always easy and there are always 2 sides to every story. Wisdom teaches you that! Even though there were years when Jo snd i wanted to leave each other, we didn't! And I'm so glad that we stayed together! Because while there were years that we showed our kids what a good marriage was, there were also years that they, unfortunately, saw what a bad marriage was. But in the end, i hope what they take out of it is, in the end, we stayed together!
