I hear ladies call other ladies "supermom" all the time. I've even heard people call me supermom. I know it is supposed to be a compliment and an endearing term, but I'm drawing back the curtain today and saying no more supermom people!
If you're like me, you recognize and greatly feel this growing pressure to be it all and do it all as a mom. To me, that is what "supermom" eludes to; this sense that you can and should keep all those plates spinning and God forbid you let one drop. And if you do, pile on the guilt.
TV, Pinterest, Social Media, and our culture give us this absurd idea that our responsibility and lives as moms never ends. Right? I mean the list goes on and on...
Keep a clean house
Kitchen stocked with locally sourced, organic groceries
Meal plans filled with home-cooked, from-scratch dinners
No/Less processed food or sugar for the kids
Laundry not overflowing it's baskets or laying all over the place
Pinterest worthy birthday parties
Magazine worthy decorated home
Workout, be fit, eat right
Be in shape, loose that baby weight
Be crafty with your kids and less screen time
Have a blog
Have a hobby
Well-behaved and perfectly-groomed, over achieving kids
You loose your temper?! uh oh!
Read 24 books a year
Get your hair did, get your nails did
Trendy clothes for the whole family
Do all the sports, all the activities

It's just too much you guys. No one person can keep this up! The things I think I'm not doing well at by the end of the day or week are just insanity and misery.
That's where my soap box comes in, on behalf of my own mom-heart and yours.
That's where my soap box comes in, on behalf of my own mom-heart and yours.
How about you do you and I'll do me? And together we throw off all of the unrealistic expectations put on us by us and others to be and do something we are not.
God made us enough. He made us exactly who we are with the likes and dislikes and talents and tendencies we have for a purpose. How about we lean into those and do those and find freedom as we come to terms that we were not meant to be it all and do it all.
We have to recognize what we CAN do and what we actually LIKE to do and make priorities. There is only so much time in a day. So do the things YOU'RE good at and drop the things you're not. And feel free!
I'm doing this in my life right now. Regarding my kids, regarding my hobbies, regarding my cooking, regarding my life at home, regarding my relationships. And I'm feeling so free I'm about to yell from the top of my hilly, un-landscaped back yard!
Do the same, please. Let yourself off the pressure and guilt hook. Figure out what you need to say "yes" to and the things you need to say "no" to and do it unapologetically!
