Motherhood. There is nothing like it. Its a joy. Its a privilege. Its an honor. Its a hard job. Its an exhausting calling. It is just plain difficult sometimes.
Whatever makes you a mommy, a birth, an adoption, a step mama by marriage, etc, no one gives you a manual for this. But the closet thing I've found are the fellow mamas living in the trenches of motherhood beside me. They are my life line a lot of the time and I am SO beyond blessed by the other mamas that I get to share life with right now. I seriously thank Jesus for you because I've never been more aware of my need for some good friends. I need you. And I don't know what I'd do without you.
We had a tough day this past week and I posted something on Facebook about the biting and hitting that I had been disciplining for that morning. A fellow friend who is an amazing mama of two boys older than Copelynn commented and really encouraged me. Her comment seriously changed the path of my attitude and day. She said something like "this won't last forever, you're doing a GREAT job and go get yourself a coffee."
I almost cried because I needed to hear those words. I needed an outsider with a broader perspective to tell me its okay to treat yourself and you will be alright! Don't worry about the sugar you're trying to stay away from, don't worry about the money you're trying not to spend on frivolous coffee and go treat yourself because some days in motherhood just call for a treat.
I loaded up my little biter and hitter and we hit up Starbucks. I took some coffee to a fellow mama that I dearly love, knowing she could use the same treat that I needed, and we had such a good 20 minute unplanned visit listening to each others crazy days thus far.
What a relief to simply get out of the daily grind and take 20 minutes to share some struggles over a couple cups of coffee. $4 therapy. Amen and Amen.
So from one mama to another--you're doing a great job. You're doing the most important job in the world. Just like God chose your child for you, He chose YOU for them, too. He saw no better fit than YOU for your baby.
And on that note; don't forget to treat yourself on the hard days and celebrate the good days. Cheers to motherhood.
