The postpartum body

As I washed the shampoo out of my hair the other day I looked down and thought, man this body does not look like what it used to. 4 months postpartum with baby #2 and I'm still working on getting to where I want to be. As I soaked up that sacred alone time {aka shower time} I pondered my goals for my physical body and my mind wandered to what other moms think when they look at themselves like I was.

I'm afraid most moms would have something negative to say about themselves....and that's where this passionate post began.

If you're like me, you don't so much struggle with comparing yourself to others, but comparing your current post-baby self with your old pre-baby self. I preached to myself there in that shower and I'll preach to you today. Don't you dare do that for one more minute, day, or hour. Don't you dare look at that belly or those boobs or those stretch marks or anything else with contempt.

The body I stared down at in that shower carried and grew two babies for 40+ weeks. That body labored HARD and delivered those precious 9 lb babies into this world. That body nourished and sustained those babies for the 1st year of their lives.

Well, we're 4 months into nursing with #2 but I plan to go 1 year again :)

Anyway....

You're a mom now and you're better because of it! That old pre baby body couldn't claim to have done those amazing things! But your current body can. And THAT is something beautiful. That is something to celebrate.

So you remember the incredible things your body has done every time you look in the mirror. Whether you've hit your goals or have more to work on, you love yourself. Because you're more now than that pre baby woman ever was.
