The Charnock's word for 2013 is.........
Through submitted obedience His promises are fullfilled
Luke 1:38-45
It was really fun how the Lord spoke this to us. Zach and I shut ourselves in seperate rooms on New Years Day, as I was hacking up a lung and using ALL the kleenex in our house, and then came back together to share what we'd gotten. We both got our words from the same scripture, so cool! Zach's was Luke 1: 39-45 and mine was Luke 1: 38.
God gave me the 1st part: Submitted Obedience.
In Luke 1:38 Mary says "Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word."
What got me was this: Mary was so blindly obedient and submitted to the Lord and what he was doing in her life. She was a virgin who was engaged to be married when an angel of the Lord came to her and turned her whole world upside down with his news. He told her that she was going to have a baby, even though she was a virgin, and oh...this baby will be the Savior of the world.
As I sought the Lord more of what this meant for us, he said this: submitted obedience, Aimee. I want you and Zach to be as submitted and obedient as Mary was.
I had to then ask, how do we become that submitted and obedient? Because it's not natural :)
-Spend daily, consistent time with the Lord
-This allows us to know His heart and intentions
-Which builds our trust in him
-And trust will produce being that obedient and submitted
As we spend more & more time with the Lord, we will know that his heart and intentions for us are good. His heart is to prosper us and bless us. Never to harm us or lead us astary. When we really know and believe this, we will trust him. Trust will allow us to be that submitted and obedient because we trust him.
Side note: I think this also applies to us as parents. I desire my little Copelynn to be obedient and submitted to us. If we want this, I believe we have to follow that same formula thing with her. Time together, heart & intentions, trust = true obedience/submission. BUT, we're the examples. So as we do this with the Lord, she will do this with us as we model it.
God gave Zach the 2nd part: Fullfilled Promises
Luke 1:39-45
Verse 45: "And blessed is she who believes that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord."
This is the story of Mary going to visit Elizabeth. Elizabeth was barren and too old to have babies, but she miraculously became pregnant with John the Baptist. And of course, Mary at this point was pregnant with Jesus. Both of these women are such a picture of the Lord's promises fullfilled.
This story rang true in our hearts for this year. There are some specific promises that the Lord has spoken to us that I believe will come to pass this year. And God's showed us that these promises will be fulfilled as we are submitted and obedient to him.
